About L.A Linière
L.A Linière is a flax cooperative in Northern France, founded in 2004 from the merger of two older cooperatives. Today, it brings together 450 farmers cultivating flax for textiles. Flax shives – the woody core of the stem, around 50% of its mass – are a co-product of scutching, the process that separates the fiber from the rest of the straw. Until 2019, they were largely underutilized: the cooperative sought sustainable ways to use this by-product and reduce waste. That is the year our partnership began.

Why Flax Matters
Bâtilin – Flax Concrete Block
Bâtilin is made from flax shives, lime and water. Easy to install, suitable for interior and exterior walls, partitions and slabs. It helps save energy, provides comfort and is carbon-negative.
Applications
Bâtilin blocks are used for structural infill, insulation, partitions and a wide range of projects. Eco-friendly, energy-efficient and comfortable.
Opportunities for 3D Printing
While the block is not yet load-bearing, a dedicated R&D phase could enable flax concrete to be used for 3D-printed buildings in the near future.
A Promising Future
Bâtilin plans to open a new factory in 2026–2027, scale block production, develop accessories, and carry out social housing, school, sports hall, theater and private projects.
